I am a Championship Official

Recognizing the rigors of this avocation, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of all my fellow Championship Officials.

Acknowledging the fact that a Championship Official is a more elite referee, I accept the fact that as a Championship Official my chosen sport expects me to move better, faster, and get more calls correct  than any other official.

Never shall I fail my comrades I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show my chosen sport that I am a specially selected and well trained official. My courtesy to coordinators, coaches and players, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I officiate all contests. I shall be correct in my judgments on the court or field for I am better trained and will work with all my might. I will always support my comrades and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my chosen sport.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude and courage required to make the right call and complete the contest, even though my judgments maybe seen as unpopular at the time.

Adapted from the US Army Ranger Creed (public domain) and dedicated to my son, CPT Sean M. Curnow US Army Ranger, 101st Airborne Aviation.

Mike Curnow is a 15 year basketball official working in the Colorado and surrounding states. He has worked in 10 State Basketball Tournaments and officiated 1 championship.
