CFOA Weekly Training video: (Link to Video) We continue to look for consistency statewide on mechanics and philosophies. This week's video talks about the CFOA Philosophy regarding O-Linemen blocking below the waist from a two point stance when QB is in shotgun formation. Lets all get on the same page with this philosophy so teams get the same message from the different area officials. We will also get this information out to coaches directly.

What Happened in Week 2
Here are a couple items from the CFOA Rules Interpreter, George Demetriou:

1) Game reports: We are still not getting them all. Please remind everyone we are looking for issues that need to be fixed (clock, chain crew, lockers, etc.), educational material (unusual plays – called right or wrong) and anything else that other officials might find useful. Area Directors get a copy of of each report from your area. Bud Ozzello, CHSAA Assistant Commisioner, is very diligent on following up with problem areas. Please avoid irrelevant comments, jokes and minutia such as “AD escorted us to locker room and provided beverage and candy bars.”
2) The reports indicate Back Judges are taking too long on kickoffs- too much talking to kicker. The game drags when we spend unnecessary time doing stuff that does not matter. After the first kick, BJ just needs to count players, hand the ball to the kicker, remind him to wait for the whistle and get to the sideline.
3) We have emphasized the difference between PF’s and USC’s. Remember, multiple cheap shots (non-football acts) that are flagrant can be grounds for a DQ and are supportable. But we must make sure we all understand that a contact foul is NOT an UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT FOUL!!!!!

Have a Great Week!!!

Stay Focused
Kirk Russell, CFOA Past President

Reminder - Crew Signal (J) is used by the wing to indicate the widest receiver on your side is "On" the line of scrimmage. It is the downfield arm at a 45deg angle to the body (ie belt high). It should remain extended until the snap or the widest receiver and opposing wing have confirmed your ruling. If receivers shift to a new position the wings must re-assess the receivers and re-confirm.
